Vincent Fantauzzo -
  • About

Vincent was born in 1977 in Birmingham, UK. At the age of four, he moved to Melbourne with his family. Vincent graduated from RMIT (Melbourne) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting, and then moved on to complete his Masters of Fine Arts at RMIT at the age of twenty-eight.
Using a medium of oil on canvas, Vincent paints figures in the pictorial space an often draws upon techniques used in other mediums such as photography and film to create a narrative. Through the use of contrasting elements of light and dark, shadows and colours, he creates depth in his images and heightens the realism and theatrical effect.

In 2008 Vincent’s entry into the Archibald Portrait Prize of the late Heath Ledger won him the runner-up and the People’s Choice award. In 2009 his entry of the child actor Brandon Walters in Baz Luhrmann’s epic ‘Australia’ again won him the People’s Choice award.

Recently Vincent has been recognised as artist of the year in the GQ man of the year awards for 2008 and was voted as one of the Melbourne’s top 100 most influential people of 2009 by the Age.
